Minutes from November 8, 2018

December 13, 2018

Our program began at 7 p.m. with Loan Trinh telling of her experiences of being a refugee from Vietnam. She is a real example of how education can make a difference – through her education and work at Arkema she has been able to help many family members come into the United States. Thank you for sharing your story, Loan.

The meeting was called to order at 8:45 p.m. in the Fireside Room at First Lutheran Church. Guests Rhonda McCabe, Loan Trinh, and Karla Iacovino were welcomed.  Jean Peterson thanked everyone who worked at the Village Affair.  Kudos were also given to Beth and Mary for arranging our last very successful election forum with Terry Gjersvik and Peggy Bennett.

Minutes: There were no additions or corrections; they stand approved as submitted.

Treasurer’s Report: There is $6,431 in our checking account. Treasurer Jeanette also had a written summary of expenses and income to date from Village Affair. (This will be attached at the bottom of the page if possible.) Income total was $7,695; expenses were $1,978.

Committee Reports:

Program – Next month will be our holiday party at Jean Peterson’s home. Please bring a white elephant for our charity auction and an appetizer or sweets. Drinks will be provided.

Membership – No report. It was suggested that we put something in the welcome packet that is given to new residents.

Public Policy – No report

Village Affair: Pam reported that it was a fabulous event. The food went very well and was gone by 1 p.m. Revenue for booths was up by $60. There were no refunds and zero no-shows. Attendance was phenomenal. The sale of raffle tickets was up – moving the table by the entrance door has helped a lot. Vendors did not express any complaints! The aprons worked out well. Pam thanked all for their help. In return all expressed appreciation for the hard work that Pam, the committee, and the Women of Today have done.

Old Business: None

New Business: The Women of Today have asked for help wrapping presents at the Santa House on Friday, December 7 from 2:30 to 5 p.m. at the City Center. Please bring your own tape and scissors. Members are encouraged to donate to Santa House.

Jeanette’s phone number is 507-567-2700.
