Blooming Branch

Begun in 1961 with just a handful of women in our community, our local branch has served a valuable purpose for 50 years.  Yes, in 2011, our branch will celebrate its 50th anniversary.  We also boast  that one of our charter members, Pat I, is still a part of our group!

Each year, approximately 30 women from the Blooming Prairie area are commited to furthering the mission of AAUW as both members and community partners.

Each year, our branch:

-sponsors monthly educational events;

-partners with community education for special speakers of wide interest;

-puts on a raucous White Elephant auction;

-and enacts a one-day arts and crafts festival / quilt auction in October –the Village Affair.

Proceeds from the Village Affair are paid forward through the giving of scholarships to college-bound seniors from BPHS as well as community women who are returning to college to meet their higher education goals.  Our small branch awards $2000-$3000 in scholarships annually.

Any women with a four-year college degree are welcome to join as Members of AAUW.  Membership fees for this year total $60.00.  Women with two-year college degrees or equivalents are welcome to join AAUW as Community Partners.  Community Partner membership fees are $15.00 annually.  The Blooming Prairie branch has a wide variety of backgrounds, educational experiences, work experiences, and ages.  We welcome all who want to join our mission.

We are proud to say that over the years, through our commitment to women in education, the impact of AAUW in our community is truly exponential!  Since 1973, our small branch has awarded over $65,000 in scholarships to local women furthering their education.
