September 13, 2012 Minutes

AAUW was happy to welcome eight guests to our September meeting.

The presentation, “Remember – My Year Working at Dachau, Germany” was given by Teresa W. (granddaughter of Kay N.).

The business meeting was then called to order by President Diance O.

Secretary’s Report:  The May minutes were read and approved as read.

Treasurer’s Report:  The checking account balance is $773.61.  $2,500 in bills have been paid in August, including the scholarships and the speaker.

Program Committee:  The new program brochures were handed out and a summary of 2012 – 2013 indicated a super year coming up.

Membership Committee:  Phyllis D. announced no change in membership thus far. She called attention to material and brochures available. Pat I. is a lifetime member and Sue T. is a guest. Ardis K’s name should be added to the program brochure’s membership list.

Public Policy:  Links to Public Policy issues were passed out.

Scholarship Commkittee:  The following were chosen by the committee to receive a scholarship:  Melanie G., Pat J, Maggie S., Luc Z. and Hunter H.

Old Business:  A new member e-mail address list has been generated.

New Business:  The Village Affair worker sign-up will be at the October meeting. There are 76 spaces with 47 exhibitors signed up already Advertising posters were passed out as well as tickets for the quilt raffle. The kitchen will be manned by Beth T. catering.

The question was raised as to the amount paid speakers this year. Last year in-town speakers were paid $50 and those from out of town were paid $70. Betty B. moved that speakers from out of town be paid $75, leaving the in-town payment at $50. A second by Phyllis D. was followed by discussion and a vote. The motion passed.

Regarding the January 2013 meeting, members will submit a book title at the October meeting. The activity for January is a discussion of a good book or movie.

Announcements:  The Owatonna AAUW Chapter has invited us to their November 8th meeting.
