April 12, 2012 Meeting Minutes

Call to order and welcome by Pres. Marilyn M.  Also thanked hostesses Diane O, Joanne S, and Betty B.

Members present:  Betty B, Loretta I, Phyllis D, Austra H, Jean P, Ardis K, Beth K, Mary M, Marilyn M, Diane O, Karen V and Nancy V.

Motion made to accept minutes of March meeting, posted on blog by Jean P.  Motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report:  Beth indicated a checking account balance of $3720.61.

Program Cmte:  May’s program is the ever-popular Mystery Dinner.  Email will be sent with further details.

Scholarship Cmte:  The committee consisting of Nancy, Leanne, Ardis & Marilyn W are now reading approx 20 applications.

Old Business:

Nominating Cmte:  rather than a formal cmte, the following slate of new officers was presented.

Diane O and Nancy V – Co-Presidents (2 yr term, 2012-2014)

Ardis K – Secretary (2 yr term, 2012-2014)

Beth K – Treasurer (2 yr term, 2012-2014 ?)

A motion was made by Jean P to accept the slate as presented.  Motion 2nded by Betty B.  Motion carried.  Congratulations to the new officers, and thank you to those concluding their terms!

Dues will be collected at the May meeting.  Dues are $60.00 for Members and $35.00 for Community Partner Members.

Nancy V has volunteered to attend the AAUW State Convention in Brainerd, MN (Saturday only, April 18).  $105 was sent in for her registration and mileage will be covered.

A motion was made by Betty B to pay our speaker a $50 honorarium, plus mileage, approx $70.  Loretta I seconded the motion.  Motion carried.

Scholarship award amounts were discussed, both amounts and number of recipients.  Betty B made a motion to grant $2500 in scholarship monies, to be divided as the Scholarship Cmte’s wishes.  Loretta I seconded the motion.  Motion carried.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM:  Joan Queen, CNP from Owatonna Mayo System spoke on Women’s Health Issues.  Topics included:  breast cancer screening, colon cancer screening; osteoporosis, cholesterol, diabetes and heart disease tests; causes of ovarian cancer; menopause, and much more.
