September 2011 Meeting Minutes

The September 8, 2011 meeting was called to order at 6:31 pm by Pres Marilyn M.  She welcomed our 50 Year Charter Member Pat I and family & thanked our hostesses Betty B and Karen V.

Members presented included: Marilyn M, Heidi H, Jean P, Karen V, Beth K, Chris B, Betty B, Mary M, Phyllis D, Loretta I, Suzi P, Diane O, Austra H, Nancy V, Pat I, and guests. Minutes from May were completely forgotten by our detail-oriented Secretary, Heidi H.  [Will be posted at a later date]

Treasurer’s Report:  Beth K reported a balance of 2145.45 in the checking account.  Six scholarships for BPHS Class of 2011 were paid over the summer and approx $1400 in booth rentals have been deposited.

Committee Reports

Program:  The planned programming for 2011-12 was reviewed by Betty B

Membership:  New Members, please contact Phyllis D for forms

Scholarship:  No report

Village Affair:  Date is October 29, 2011.  The Highway Roost will provide the catered lunch.  Mary M reported the menu includes a choice of chicken salad croissant and sloppy joes.  Marilyn M mentioned that 50 vendors have already reserved spaces; total spaces reserved 78 1/2.  Some of the wares include denim bags, American Doll clothes, fused glass artisans, pottery and ceramics, food and private party vendors.

Posters were distributed to members for circulation.  Kitchen crew will need help to cut bars.  See Karen V to assist.

Quilt Raffle tickets were distributed.  Quilt was made by Marilyn M this year (thank you!)

Old Business:  none

New Business:  The budget will be voted upon in October.  Please review as you are able.

Thank yous were circulated from two of our recent scholarship recipients

AAUW in Austin has two tickets available for their House Tour on Sept 25

Thank you to Irene S for the $25.00 gift given in honor of 50 Year Charter Member Pat I

50th ANNIVERSARY OPEN HOUSE (in case you missed it) included the following:

introduction of those present;

artifacts and history from Marilyn M;

a walk down memory lane with Pat I;

a chance to browse posters of scholarship recipients;

snazzy scrapbook viewing of AAUW through the years;

several former members who attended in-person or sent greetings (what a fun surprise!);

a heartfelt gift presentation to Pat I and her family;

and…a fabulous reception!

DID YOU KNOW:  Since 1973, our branch has awarded $65,125.00 in scholarships.  This is something to celebrate!
