Minutes May 10, 2018
Call to Order: President Jean Peterson called the meeting to order at 7:50 p.m. Twelve members were present at our Mystery Dinner held at Bella Victoria in Austin.
Minutes: The minutes were reviewed and approved as submitted.
Treasurer’s Report: Not available.
Committee Reports:
Program: Mary Malherek and Beth Krebs asked for program ideas, and also ideas on where to meet. Thanks to them for an interesting slate of programs this year,
Membership: Please share names of people who may be interested.
Scholarship: Loretta, Beth, Liza, and Naomi served on this committee. Three scholarships were given: $700 to Jerrin Jax; $700 to Mitchell Oswald; and $600 to Mandy Doocy. Marilyn and Liza presented the scholarships at the awards ceremony.
Village Affair: Please bring items for the Minnesota raffle basket to the September meeting. A list of suggestions was given to the members present.
Old Business:
Aprons: Heidi reported that they have arrived.
State Convention: Mary and Marilyn attended the convention in Faribault. Information from the convention was presented to the members. Mary and Marilyn reported that AAUW is stressing simplifying its priorities and letting other organizations work on other goals. The AAUW focus will instead be on:
- Pay equity
- Title IX
- Discrimination against women
One item from the state convention that garnered interest was the Tech Savvy grants that are available for junior and senior high school students.
Announcements: The sheep Venus can come to the library next week. (Side note: Venus turned out to be a goat, not a sheep. No sheep were at the program.)
