October 2015 Meeting Minutes

The Blooming Prairie Branch of AAUW met in the Blooming Prairie High School library on Thursday, October 18, 2015.  The meeting was called to order by Co-President Marilyn Meshke at 7:10 p.m.  Twelve members were present.

Secretary’s report:  The minutes are usually posted on the blog, but the September minutes were not yet posted.

Treasurer’s Report:  As of September 30, the checking account balance was $5,613.57.  All bills are paid to date.

Program Committee:  This year’s programs will be printed and distributed at November’s meeting.  Next month the speaker will be Ali Mach, Athletic Director at Blooming Prairie High School.  Hostesses for November’s meeting will be Heidi Heimgartner and Julie Kloch.

Highlights of the year include the January meeting at Joanne Sorensen’s home.  February will feature a book discussion of The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd.

Membership Committee:  There was no response from the August invitations that were sent out.  Always be on the lookout for prospective members.

Village Affair:  There have been 128 booths rented and requests are still being accepted.  Workers are needed Friday evening.  Reminders were given regarding wearing the special T-shirts, the raffle tickets, and the food that was requested.  Workers are still needed for the concession stand.  If there are questions, contact Pam or Karen.

Old Business:  The budget for the year was passed.

New Business:

  • The state convention will be held in Duluth April 29 – May 1.
  • Julie will be leaving for a position in Northfield.  She will try to attend meetings if time and weather permit.

The meeting was adjourned.

The program was presented by Julie and featured a Powerpoint program on the history of AAUW from the late 1800s to the present.  AAUW has been in the forefront of both human rights and women’s rights issues since its inception.  The program was informative and inspiring.

A delicious fall-inspired lunch was served by Marilyn Meshke and Karen Valentine.
