Meeting October 10, 2013
The meeting began with a presentation on “The State of Seniors in Blooming Prairie” by Prairie Manor/Heather House administrator Jim B. and the Healthy Seniors Program Coordinator LuAnn F. Following this, the business meeting was opened by Nancy V. at 8:15 PM. The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as posted on the blog.
The treasurer reported an account balance of $3,311.76. Approximately $2,500 are in for the Village Affair. The scholarship checks have been cashed.
Committee Reports
-
Program – Jean P. introduced the program for November on Human Trafficking, which will be given by sisters from Assisi Heights. It was recommended that this be advertised to the public and that members bring a friend.
- Membership – No report.
- Public Policy – There is information in The Pine on sex trafficking.
- Scholarship – A thank you note was passed around from James M., 2013 scholarship recipient.
- Village Affair – Pam F. reported 118 & 1/2 spots were taken, with only one still available, for a total of #2,607. The noon meals will cost $7, with two menu choices. Pam had good remarks regarding the cooperation of the Women of Today gals.
New Business
- Budget Review – Nancy reported that the new budget will depend on the Village Affair intake. The amount to give the Women of Today for their efforts is still not decided. One criterion might be the number of volunteer hours by both groups. The bulk of the work by Women of Today has been done by three or four women. Betty suggested that the combined planning committee from AA UW and Women of Today decide on the formula and recommend it to the next meeting. The budget will be decided after that.
- Member News/Updates – None
Announcements
- Bring a friend to the next meeting on November 14th.
- Other announcements – The film, “A Place at the Table” will be shown at the B.P. Public Library on Thursday November 17 at 6:30 PM.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:50 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Ardis K.
